Hey Beautiful Friends,
Isn’t there something empowering about making your own gluten-free vegan banana chocolate chip muffins? Maybe not that specifically, but there’s something fantastic about creating something and seeing the result. You put in some effort, and BAM—there it is. What I’m sharing with you today is all about empowerment.
One of my goals as a wellness and movement teacher—whether it’s through yoga, Pilates, or fitness—is to help empower you. I want to motivate you and give you the resources to care for yourself so you can live pain-free, feel strong, and be serene and joyful. Yes, looking good is part of it, but more importantly, it’s about transforming your world and enjoying the journey.
This week, I have some highly requested vagus nerve practices to help you cultivate your parasympathetic state. It’s like a muscle—the more you practice, the more you can stay in this state of calm and balance. I’ve also included some cooling breathing techniques, perfect for those hot days or for dealing with hot flashes. These practices were requested by some of you and are particularly beneficial for hormone balance.
I hope you enjoy these practices and find them empowering on your wellness journey.

Last week, we talked about struggle and this week let’s discuss self-soothing behaviors that cultivate the hormone oxytocin. How do our practices help stimulate the release of oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone” or “cuddle hormone” ???
Let’s see…
In our Yin practice involves holding poses for an extended period, which allows the body to relax deeply. As you surrender into the poses, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Lowering stress levels can naturally increase oxytocin production.
Somatic exercises focus on mindful, slow movements that enhance body awareness and relaxation. By tuning into the body and practicing mindful movement, you reduce stress and promote a sense of safety and well-being, which can stimulate oxytocin release.
The long-held poses in Yin Yoga often involve deep stretches and gentle compression of connective tissues, which can have a soothing, almost nurturing effect on the body. This kind of physical self-care can promote oxytocin release, as it mimics the comforting effects of gentle touch. And our somatic exercises do this.They often involve gentle self-touch or bringing awareness to specific body parts, which can create a deeper connection with oneself.
All of our practices encourage a deep connection with oneself, which can improve overall emotional well-being.
By working with the body’s deeper tissues and activating the parasympathetic nervous system, Yin Yoga helps to calm the mind and body, which can regulate cortisol levels and promote the production of oxytocin.
The meditative state achieved through these practices can create the perfect environment for oxytocin production, enhancing feelings of connection, trust, and love.
How else can we promote deep relaxation, reduce stress, enhance self-awareness, and foster connections? I challenge myself and you to take this off the mat.

This week let’s rethink STRUGGLE and what it means to you. What does is convey to you? There is no right answer. It is only a conversation.
Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. –Napoleon Hill
Struggle, though often uncomfortable, plays a crucial role in our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. While I am a huge fan of Napolean Hill, I do believe strength and growth come from play, curiosity, mindfulness and other aspects of life. It is essential to rethink struggle in world that thrives on convenience.
Struggle builds resilience. I tell my kids this all the time. When we face challenges, our brain is forced to adapt and find solutions, which enhances cognitive flexibility and problem-solving skills. Overcoming obstacles also boosts confidence and self-esteem. IT EMPOWERS US. Mentally, struggle can foster a growth mindset, where challenges are seen as opportunities for learning rather than threats. It removes our “VICTIMHOOD”.
Physical struggle, like pushing through a tough workout or recovering from an injury, strengthens the body. It highlights our resilience. It forces us to push our limits, leading to muscle growth, increased endurance, and overall physical fitness. Additionally, the physical struggle often releases endorphins, which improve mood and reduce stress, contributing to our overall well-being.
Struggle can be a powerful catalyst for spiritual growth. It often prompts introspection, helping us to explore our beliefs, values, and even our purpose. It can also cultivate compassion, empathy, and gratitude, as we learn to appreciate the journey of life.
Struggle, when approached with the right mindset, becomes a transformative force.

I love hydrangea. I planted some a bit ago and they just didn’t seem to take. This year they bloomed and bursted with colors. Sometimes, we think our practice isn’t working and then one day we remember a time from the past of chronic pain or stress that is no longer part of us. Our practice is just that a practice and every time we get on the mat we begin to transform and bloom.

Summer is here for most of us, though some in our community are on the other side of the globe, journeying back to light. ☀️ ☀️ For most of us, this time of year we engage in many yang activities. Therefore, try some yin practices to balance out your energy. For our Aussie Friends and others celebrating chillier temperatures, you may try a yin yang practice. IAs the lovely words above remind us, our well-being is influenced both on and off the mat. Our thoughts, words, and habits create micro effects in our lives, which can be either positive or negative.
To support your wellness journey, I added a NEW 8 minute Exercise Snack and a NEW 8 minute Somatic Yoga practice. Additionally, our tutorial includes a 1-minute chakra meditation chant that can rebalance your entire body. These practices can be done daily. I am a huge fan of EXERCISE SNACKING. JULY IS HERE. ☀️ I am amazed how quickly June flew by us and it was chaos for me. However, I am noticing big transformations afterwards. Our practice is often very much like this. Happy Dad’s Day!!!☀️ This week, I want to talk about believing—believing even when things seem bleak, hard, or impossible. Just like pilots fly using oblique flight plans, adjusting our mood works in a similar way. So get a flight plan… Pilots optimize their routes to take advantage of favorable conditions, and we can do the same by focusing on positive situations and influences in our lives. Focus on the sunshine.
Pilots navigate around adverse weather to ensure a smooth flight, and similarly, we can steer our mood away from negative influences and environments that may cause distress or discomfort. Oblique flight plans provide flexibility to change routes if necessary. In the same way, adjusting our mood involves being adaptable and finding ways to shift our perspective or actions in response to changing circumstances or challenges.
Efficient flight paths conserve fuel and time. Efficient mood management conserves emotional energy and helps us navigate life’s challenges more effectively, leading to better mental health and productivity. Pilots proactively plan their routes to avoid potential issues. Similarly, we can proactively manage our mood by engaging in activities that boost our spirits, practicing mindfulness, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent emotional downturns.
Pilots use tools and guidance systems to navigate oblique flight paths. We can use various strategies and support systems, such as our practices, meditation, or talking to friends, to help adjust and maintain a positive mood.
By understanding these parallels, we can see that managing our mood effectively requires strategic thinking, adaptability, and proactive measures, much like piloting a plane on an oblique flight plan. My beautiful friends, let’s remember that bad weather happens. We just need the tools to fly around and above.
Remember to tap into the potential of what you want to cultivate. It only takes a seed. One seed.
